Reality cooking show, filmed at NCI, to air on SUN TV

Jul 3, 2009

“Pressure Cooker” a reality television series shot on location at Niagara College’s Niagara Culinary Institute (NCI) last year, returns to the air this summer.

The series features 16 wannabe ‘rock star’ Canadian chefs facing-off in a series of high pressure competitions. The competitors are eliminated until two finalists face a gruelling cook-off in the final episode for top culinary honours. The series was shot at the NCI at Niagara College’s Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus in early summer 2008.

This fast-paced unscripted series of nine one-hour episodes feature Niagara College Chef Professors Mark Picone and Virginia Marr as judges. Competitors are judged by a panel of three highly qualified Tasting Judges and by a squad of Kitchen Judges overlooking kitchen behaviour and culinary malpractice.

“Pressure Cooker” will air on SUN TV Sundays at 6 p.m. starting July 5, and on MEN TV three times every Monday starting July 6 (check local listings).

Viewers will have the opportunity to win valuable prizes in NCI’s weekly “Food Bites” trivia challenge, which will accompany each episode. Weekly prizes will include gift certificates for the NCI, Niagara College Teaching Winery, Niagara College Greenhouse and the College’s Niagara Waters Spa. The grand prize is a weekend for two in Niagara, including golf.
