Niagara College offers one-of-a-kind tall ship cruise adventures, June 12-13

The Niagara College Sailing School, offered through Continuing Education, is presenting three one-of-a-kind tall ship cruise adventures sure to please everyone, June 12 and 13.

At 200 feet overall, and 11,000 square feet of sail, the Empire Sandy majestically cruises Lake Ontario and the Welland Canal, offering passengers the unique experience of sailing aboard an authentic Tall Ship.

The 62-metre three-masted schooner sets sail Saturday, June 12, from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. (boarding time is 10 a.m.) allowing passengers to experience “Cruising Through History on a Tall Ship.” Enjoy a leisurely historical cruise in the waters of western Lake Ontario and lower Niagara River. With educational commentary by noted Niagara historian Professor Wesley Turner, relive the historic episodes leading up to, during and following the War of 1812, experience Niagara’s natural history and glide over some of Lake Ontario’s sunken ships. Tickets are $95 per person and include a continental breakfast, full-course dinner, fabulous desserts, and coffee and tea.

Then, taste the atmosphere during the “Dinner Cruise on Lake Ontario,” departing on Saturday, June 12, from 8 p.m. to midnight (boarding time is 7:30 p.m.). Dance to live musical entertainment during the fun-filled cruise on Lake Ontario from dusk to midnight. Tickets are $79 per person and include a roast beef and pasta dinner with salads and side dishes, fabulous desserts, and coffee and tea.

Finally, rediscover the Welland Canal with the “Welland Canal Sunday Lunch” cruise on Sunday, June 13, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (boarding time is 10:30 a.m.). The relaxing cruise will explore some of the locks, bridges and history of the St. Lawrence Seaway’s Welland Canal. With educational commentary by noted Niagara historian Professor Wesley Turner, passengers will experience the raising and lowering process for ships within the canal system, while travelling a component of the same route taken by international lakers and liners. Tickets are $95 per person and include a lovely Sunday luncheon.

All cruises will leave from Port Dalhousie’s East Pier, and will sail rain or shine. A cash bar is available to individuals 19 years of age and older. Maps and boarding passes will be mailed out the week prior to the cruise.
